Next generation sequencing-based RNA-seq analysis (transcriptomics), can help characterize and quantify levels of gene expression within biological tissues. These data form the basis of differential expression tests to evaluate effects of a variable or treatment on gene expression patterns. Depending on the taxon, RNAseq samples can be prepared with techniques such as polyA or probe-based selection, or depletion of ribosomal or other abundant transcripts, to increase efficiency by focusing sequencing effort on specific targets of interest.
